Policy Issues
Organisational Policies
The following are summaries of policies, which have been drawn up by the Board of Management taking into account the expressed views of parents and Clinical Team members, and are subject to ongoing review.
School year and attendance
Our school year conforms to the standard year for primary schools, with holidays and other closures as advised from time to time. Children in the Severe/Profound range of Intellectual Disability are entitled to a continuance of education during July for an additional 20 days. However, the provision depends on the availability of trained experienced staff. The principal is obliged under the terms of the Education Welfare Act 2000 to advise the National Educational Welfare Officer of all pupil absences of more than 20 days in any school year.
Transport
All the pupils in Kolbe Special School are entitled to transport to and from school. This service is funded by the Department of Education and Science and administered by Bus Eireann. Bus Eireann has sub-contracted Universal Coaches as Bus Operators to provide the school transport. Bus escorts, employed by the school and funded by Department of Education and Science, are responsible for the children’s safety during transport.
