Kolbe Special School
Kolbe Special School was established on March 1st 2000. We offer education to students from age 4 to 18 years. Enrolment is 19 pupils with severe and profound general learning disabilities. Our staff ratio is 6 pupils to 1 teacher. Staff profile of four teachers, including Principal, eleven special needs assistants, two nurses, secretary, caretaker and three bus escorts.
The school is governed by a Board of Management in accordance with the Rules for National Schools as set out by the Department of Education and Science. We follow the Revised Primary School Curriculum and the curriculum guidelines for pupils with severe and profound general learning disabilities.
Visiting professionals include physiotherapist, speech and language therapist, consultant paediatrician, P.E. teacher and occupational therapist.
Social outings are an integral part of each pupil’s educational programme here in Kolbe. Through these outings pupils learn about their environment and integrate with their community.
The staff in Kolbe Special School work collaboratively to ensure that a broad and balanced curriculum is provided to meet each individual pupil’s needs.
The work of Kolbe is enhanced by the support of the parents and the wider community.
